In the first two decades after the laying of the first stone in 1964, Halle-Neustadt was an important reference when it comes to modern city planning. The new city represented the succes during the constrution of socialism in the GDR which is demonstrated in numerous high quality cinematic documentations and many TV-reports showing the construction of the new city.

Due to this year's 50th anniversary of Halle-Neustadt, Architekturkreis Halle and Werkleitz present essential film classics on Halle-Neustadt. Local architect Hans-Otto Brambach and Werkleitz director Daniel Herrmann show and talk about the films which document the construction of Halle-Neustadt. Historical news broadcasts about former anniversaries of the first stone laying of the young city as well as cinematic examples of construction projects in Halle (Saale) and in other cities of the GDR illustrate town construction concepts of those days.

On Saturday, film curator Florian Wüst presents a comparison between Halle-Neustadt and other modern city constructions as for instance Märkisches Viertel in West Berlin. Wüst' film selection, which ranges from the 1930's until 2012, relates the historic „Stadt der Zukunft“ (city of the future) to the architectual role models of Neues Bauen (new constructing) of the pre-war period, the general industrial progress as well as society's realities in East and West.
