Amerika 

Officially a continent, in conversational usage the USA, and in people’s minds a myth. It is the latter we are concerned with: the theme of the Werkleitz Festival is not America but the images we have of America. Only two weeks before presidential elections take place in the States we will take a look at the many ways America exerted its influence on East and West Germany: as a friend and foe, a protector and an occupying force, a mirror and a dominant culture.
